We had so much fun running around downtown taking photos on Saturday. It’s clear after spending just a few hours with these two that they are made for each other. They’ll be getting married in Cancun in August and I am so happy for them!  I know it will be amazing.

These two were so nervous to see each other, it was so cute. Even I got a little misty when Chris saw Amanda in her dress for the first time. I love being able to be a part of moments like this. It is such a privilege. I especially love couples with a great story and Amanda and Chris have a great story. You should ask them about it sometime… it reminds me of a novel.

I used to be really good at saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. I blame my grandma, really. She has NO FILTER. She blames it on old age, but she’s been that way since I was little so we all know the truth. Thankfully, over the past few years I’ve gotten better about holding my tongue.

So, what’s the worst thing that can happen on a day that your filter stays home?

Don’t worry… I didn’t say anything horrible. I mostly just laughed and giggled a little too loudly as my friend David drew smiley faces, top hats, and mustaches on his rough sketches. It made an awkward situation a little less awkward and a lot more hilarious.

What’s worse than drawing a nude model while suffering from a case of the giggles? Having a nude model vent to you about their relationship problems with their long distance boyfriend.

Anyways, I needed to go to class for about 30 minutes for my drawing portfolio review and since I knew I wouldn’t be gone too long I didn’t bother to fix my hair or put on anything nice. In fact, I threw on a shirt that I’d sworn off a few weeks ago after a one-eye’d customer asked me when I was due (that was a horrific experience).

So, it figures that as I walked out of my building to head to class two gorgeous, tan, and shirtless models were following the photographer that lives above me into our building for a shoot. I almost laughed out loud. Of course there are shirtless models in my building on the day that my hair looks less than great and I have my prego shirt on. Of course.
And I guess it’s an unwritten (or written) rule for models to have their shirts off at all times. Surely that’s why they were shirtless in the lobby of my apartment building. I’m totally ok with it, I’m just saying…

I mean, in reality I don’t have a chance with guys like that on my best day. I’m WAY too awkward.  But usually when I exit the building I expect to see the old man who can’t remember my name so he calls me “Baby Girl” or my neighbor smoking, NOT gorgeous models.  Ugh..

If I’d had known I would’ve fixed my hair and left the prego shirt in its hiding place. Lesson learned.

Am I alone in this? Surely not. I need your stories.

Those of you who’ve been in night school will understand when I say that night classes are populated by no less than 80% wacko’s. ESPECIALLY art classes, and I would know because almost my entire art degree was completed through night classes. I don’t know what that says about me, but that’s for another post.

In my current drawing class we have an incredible cast of oddities. Most of them immature, awkward and self-centered, able to put even Scary Gary from my design classes to shame! But really, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I am WAY TOO entertained by them all. I mean, where else can I hear someone call a prop cow skull a “dinosaur head” or meet someone who thinks the Catholic Sign of the Cross is a secret handshake? I’ll probably never meet another person who has claimed to lose 300 lbs in one year or “stab a boar with his luckily upturned dagger as it lunged toward him”.
Once my time at TJC is over, I’ll probably never overhear two people discuss how cool squirrels are for 20+ minutes. These people are one in a million. Crazy and hilarious.

All I have to say to this is thank you. Thank you TJC, for providing me with a glimpse inside the mind of 19-year-old, East Texas Art Students.
I’ll never forget it.

I spent some time with Becca and Kerry on Saturday afternoon do to engagement photos. They drove all the way up from Houston to spend the afternoon with me and we had a blast. We had so much fun exploring downtown! I do the majority of my photos there, but there are always new spots waiting to be found.
I wasn’t able to shoot their wedding in October , but they booked my close friends at Mia Bella Photography so I know they’ll be in GREAT hands.

Thanks for driving all the way up guys! It was so fun to get to know you better! Congratulations and enjoy the photos!

I had a great weekend! Two great engagement shoots with two incredible couples! Becca and Kerry’s preview will be up tomorrow and stay tuned for Emma and Travis’ later in the week.  I had so much fun with you guys! It’s clients like you and make me love what I do…

I also put up some photos at a cool little art show this weekend called Common Grounds. Its a great venue! Definitely check it out. Free coffee, free admission, great music and art displays. I’ve declined other art show opportunities in the past, mostly because I don’t really consider myself a “Fine Art Photographer”. But, I dug through my archives and found some photos I could display proudly as Fine Art. It was a great experience and I would definitely do it again.

Today I wrote a sarcastic comment on a passive aggressive public note from the maintenance man in my building. I’ve always wanted to do that. But, then I felt bad about it. I think my comment came off as less sarcastic and more bitchy… so I took the whole note down and threw it away… and now I feel bad about taking it down. haha! It’s a lose/lose.

This video is amazing. I love stop motion anything… but this takes it to a whole new level.

Today’s experience was not nearly has fun as last time. I just waited around for a few hours and then they let me go. I was so dissapointed… but I have my fingers crossed for next time.

I love people watching! Also, I love eavesdropping in on peoples exuses to the judge about why they can’t stay.
…don’t judge me, you listen too. It’s also especially entertaining if there are a few crazies in the room.

- I think the Legal System is interesting
I tend to often doubt the effectiveness of American politics and legal system… so seeing it in the works and being part of the outcome reminds me that at least in these cases individual voices are heard.

I just have to hold out hope that one day… ONE DAY they’ll pick me. Until that day I’ll keep my eye out for that little slip of yellow paper.

It’s been a crazy couple weeks. I’ve been working on quite a few projects for my apartment, as well as resolving some identity theft issues… which was super fun.   Somehow someone got my debit card number and went on a shopping spree to Walmart. When I took my computer to the Computer Doctor to get cleaned up, he found over 700 viruses on it… so that’s probably where all the trouble started.

Anyways! Happy Valentines Day! I ordered seasons 3 and 4 of The Office which came in the mail today so, Happy Valentines Day to me!! I was invited to a few parties, but hanging out with other single people that don’t have anything to do on Valentines Day seems a little more depressing than just staying home and doing my usual thing. haha. But, maybe it’s just me…

My apartment is one of my favorite places. I’ve been working on a few projects that I wanted to share with you all!

I made the screen shown below out of the backing from some vinyl material we had at work. I stamped it with a bowl and stapled the top into a pole pocket. I have my tv on the other side and I hated walking in my front door and seeing the back of my tv.  I wasn’t sure if I liked the screen at first… but it’s grown on me.

These panels were inspired by Kim Lesters project at Britney’s wedding. They were pretty easy to make… although I’m sure my neighbors didn’t appreciate hearing me hammer the sawtooth hooks into the back…

I really, really love the way they turned out. I’ll post more on how I did this one later.
